Letters to Luthien

Letters to My Future Bride

TOGWD: Cooking

I don’t want to say I’ve met a ton of guys or am well-traveled and well-read on my culture. But I’ve seen my share, and observed my share of relationships enough to have an idea of what the expectations are for a guy in my culture, in this day and time.

It’s pathetic.

So above and beyond the man I plan to be for you, I thought I’d tell you a few of the things that I plan to do…those things other guys won’t do.

For starters…cooking.

Oh yes, I’ve cooked before! I’ve cooked entire dinners for my family, grilled chicken, a salad biscuits. I’ve done pancakes, cookies, brownies, granola, and pasta like spaghetti or chicken alfredo.

But I need to learn to do better. It’s a good skill to have, and I’ll get a kick out of being able to prepare a meal for you every now and again. I’ll enjoy learning what you have to teach me, and maybe on some night when you’ve been gone and come home exhausted, I’ll have dinner ready for you.

Or maybe you’ll need a night off, and I’ll take over with the kids and cooking dinner. Or when we have people coming over, maybe I’ll be able to put your mind at ease by preparing one of the dishes. Bread? Gravy? Steamed vegetables? A fresh marinade for the meat?

I think it would be fun to experiment with new recipes and learn together.

After all, isn’t doing new things together just another part of growing to love each other even more?
